Spring is almost here, and with it comes a whole new month of original streaming offerings from Netflix, who continues to put a strong focus on both stand-up specials and comedy series. Comedy highlights this month include three hour-long specials from big-hitters Amy Schumer, Jimmy Carr, and Nate Bargatze, in addition to two new comedy series, After Life and Turn Up Charlie, starring Ricky Gervais and Idris Elba, respectively. There will also be a few classic comedy movies added to the mix – scroll to the bottom for that list.

This is one of the shows that Netflix is planning on releasing one episode at a time, instead of in their traditional binge-worthy whole-series dumps. The second volume of the show continues through March, with new installments dropping every Sunday night. The reason is easy to understand: it’s a topical news show that’s being created in real time, as opposed to a fictional series or docu-series. Host Hasan Minhaj is likable and thoughtful, on top of blending politics and comedy in meaningful ways, after the likes of John Steward, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee.

Created, executive produced, and directed by Ricky Gervais – who also stars in the series – this dark comedy follows a recent and sudden widower through his life after he decides to cope with his wife’s death by shutting off his compassion. Gervais, who originally gained fame for his central role in The Office beginning in 2001, has since been involved in shows like Extras, Derek, and The Ricky Gervais Show. He and Netflix also worked together last year for his most recent stand-up special, Humanity.

Filmed at The Olympia Theatre in Dublin, Ireland, Jimmy Carr’s newest hour-long stand-up special for Netflix seems like it will be a look back at the comedian’s best bits over his more than 15-year career, though the approach an structure isn’t clear. One thing’s for sure, though: it will feature Carr’s bold one-liners and dark looks at life.

This will be his second hour-long special for Netflix – his first, Funny Business, dropped almost three years ago. He’s also currently hosting The Fixon Netflix, a comedy panel show.

The Bluths are back for another eight episodes of wackiness, finishing up their fifth season altogether and their second season on Netflix. The cult classic, which originally premiered in 2003 on Fox, continues its traditions of zany plots, unforgettable characters, and long-running jokes, though its not clear if the series still has the kick,or the impact that it once did. Bingeing it may be the only way to find out.

Starring Idris Elba, this eight-episode, 30-minute comedy follows the life of Charlie, a playboy DJ worried that he’s past his prime and missing out on the life he had dreamed of. When he becomes the nanny of his increasingly famous actor friend’s 11-year-old daughter (who’s also a trouble-maker), the plot rolls forward quickly. A fresh spin on the tried and true British sitcom formula, this one is getting mixed reviews so far.

“You’re pregnant, but you don’t change who you are,” she quips in the trailer. “I hate women who start acting really precious. You don’t stop working… or drinking.”

This is her second full-length Netflix special – The Leather Special dropped in 2017.

Following his 2017 half-hour spot on The Stand-Ups, working comedian Nate Bargatze is getting his first hour-long show on the streaming giant this month. A favorite among other comedians, including Jimmy Fallon and Marc Maron, the Southerner will likely serve up a feature-length amount of his classic, deadpan, and crowd-pleasing humor – though it’s hard to tell for sure what specifically to expect, as a trailer hasn’t been released just yet.

Well, Trailer Park Boys is getting even weirder in its thirteenth season. The Canadian mockumentary has been through a large number of changes since it premiered as a movie in 1999, and now it’s becoming a cartoon on Netflix. Yeah, it seems odd, but we’re totally here for it.

That’s it for this month! And if you’re tired of original programming and want to watch a classic, there are a few new titles of that variety dropping in March, too, including the cult favorite Wet Hot American Summer, the timeless Jane Austen rom-com Emma, and the 2008 comedy-drama Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist. Happy viewing!
